Integra Turbo Kits Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How do I install a turbo kit in my 96 Integra gsr?

I have all the parts for it I just don't know how to install the kit into my car. It's a 1996 Acura Integra GSR with the vtech engine in it. If there are websites that show how, can you please link them in the answers or if you can write instructions thatd be great too! Thank you

ANSWER: (Might help:honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=1263795www.team-integra.net/forum/.../39055-gsr-turbo-build-dummies.htmlOtherwise check the forums.....www.clubintegra.comwww.honda-tech.com/)

  2. How can you make an auto 1994 acura integra ls faster?

I want to make my 94 auto ls faster.what should I put into it? Any specific parts I can work with in the car that'll give it a boost? I'm also thinking about a turbo kit.any tips or advice from somebody who really knows about cars would be appreciated.thanks

ANSWER: (You could do what I did and swap a gsr engine into it. Or cheap out do an ls/vtec swap.Simple things are bolt on mods air intake, manifold replacement, header, straight pipe. It will help some but it will not be terribly fast. If you went turbo or gsr you would have to do a manual transmission swap.Honestly an auto tranny on a honda is weak and will start slipping. Also if you were to go turbo you would need to do some serious engine work if you planned on going past 7lbs of boost sleeves, pistons, cams. The works you would be in at least 4k.If you like forced induction and want to go cheap super charge it. A jackson racing supercharger is cheaper and more reliable than a turbo for less money. It will not be anywhere near as fast as a turbo could be but it could easily get you around 45 bhp gained. It can only really give you around at the maximum 8lbs so it would not require engine work. Super charged cars will be faster than a turbo at first but the turbo will leave them in their dust after a couple of seconds. Also keep in mind at this point you will need fmu or just hondata and tuning.)

  3. im looking to buy a turbo kit for my 94 integra ls non vtec i saw a few on ebay but idk if they are worth it?

    any suggestions

ANSWER: (Sorry but that stuff at ebay is garbage I am almost sure you saw a few ones at around $1000 USD or less, a good kit is no less than $4000 USD.If you like to do mods to your car, you can check the impact (0-60,1/4, etc) on performance using a car performance simulator (NxGTR Sim) try at source link below)

  4. where can i find a good turbo kit for a b18b1?

iv looked on ebay and iv heard they are junk but some say otherwise. i have a 93 integra with a b18b1 swap with 80,000 miles. i only want to run 9psi and my budget is 800 dollars. i just want to know what website i can find them and i would like a complete kit preferably with instructions. thank you

ANSWER: (You can do 1 of 2 things A) Save your money and stack up a little bit more funds in the bank/shoe box and turbo your car the right way with a well built kit. As far as tuning and ecu goes, I would say use Chrome(It's free.99) and get your tuner to chip your ecu (should run around 75-100 bucks) and maybe a street tune would run you around $250 depending on what area you are in. A basic dyno tune would run in the vicinity of 400-600. Don't buy ebay junk man. You will waste your money. Going Cheap will have your car broken down before you know it. ORB) Get basic bolt ons and have fun for now. Intake, Header, and Exhaust and go get a street tune. For 800-1000 you could also look into buying a b16 or b18 vtec head, oil sanwhich kit and going ls/vtec.)

  5. do i need anything before a turbo kit? integra gsr?

ok so stock honda integra gsr 1995 what would i need to change/upgrade before installing a turbo kit? or supercharger kit?or do the kits come with every thing you need to run the turbo for your car? im pretty sure ima need to upgrade some parts so the car wont BLOW UP! lol plz an thanks for the help !!

ANSWER: (there are kits that are designed to work with the stock internals (greddy, hk, one other i cant remember the name of) but its never a bad idea to build your engine. if you're going for a smaller turbo and not pushing much boost atleast get ARP bolts and studs. if you want a bigger turbo or more boost it would be a good idea to get forged rods and pistons as well as lowering the compression ratio.... and you'll want a bigger exhaust (2-3" depending on what your HP goals are) as well as bigger fuel injectorsmost importantly though: GET A REAL TUNE. not just a FCU. if you want my advice:arp bolts and studseagle or manly rodstake your pick of forged pistons, just get 9:1 compression ratioget a tune from a professional tuner)

  6. is this a good set up for a 95 Turbo Integra LS Help PLZ!?

ANSWER: (The only thing I don't see is if your getting the engine crank & pistons replaced & if your having the Block machined?)

  7. can my acura integra handle a turbo?

i have a 2000 acura integra but the engine is from a 1995 integra non vtec. people tell me that the engine might blow ect. what are the results of a properly installed turbo? will it be like a normal car when i change the oil every 3000 miles and i can floor the gas to drive spiritualy and will it make the engine last less longer?? ?? i have the full kit but im afraid to install it...do i need after market fuel pumps ans sway bars and will i break axles and struts when using the car?? ??

ANSWER: (it depends on the engine's mileage, condition, and the size of the turbo you plan on using. the B18 non-Vtec used in older Integras is actually one of the most commonly used engines for turbo Honda setups due to its smaller compression ratio than its Vtec counterparts. however, anytime you add even a small turbo to a car that's naturally aspirated, you're going to be putting excessive stress on the engine and just about everything else on the car. anytime you floor the gas on a car and "drive spirtually", it doesn't make the car last longer. it does the exact opposite. revving the sh*t out of your engine can help clear gunk out of your valve heads, but that's about the only benefit. the rest of your engine goes through excessive stress, and with a turbocharger you're going to shorten the lifespan of your engine.what size turbo are you using? have you upgraded your clutch and flywheel to handle the extra power? have you at least purchased an intercooler? is your car a 5-speed or an automatic? if it's an auto, scratch this idea and sell your kit while you still can. listen, you sound like you really don't know much about cars, and you're in way over your head here. if you can't wrench, expect to pay almost a grand for a mechanic to install the kit for you. even if you have that kind of cash laying around, good luck trying to drive this thing. i've seen numerous B18 Integras with aftermarket turbos installed, a lot of them end up pulling about 250hp and in a front wheel drive car that really doesn't weigh much at all. as a result, they torque-steer like crazy and you really need to wrestle them just to maintain control. if you're not an experienced driver, you're out of your league here.)

  8. How to turbo my 1990 Acura Integra GS?

Hi my 1990 integra has a 1.8L 4 cyl. with only 46 k miles on it. I assume that a bolt on turbo kit is easier to perform and doesnt require me to take out the A/C. I personally have no experience with Turbos and I was wondering if there are any dedicated shops in NY that make such improvements on cars. Turbo-kits.com has a few good kits good for around 300 whp at 8 psi. Even though i know the technical stuff I was wondering if anybody has any ideas on good turbo kits that dnt go past 3000k. Thanks!

ANSWER: (puttin on a turbo isnt too hardbut remember, you can only choose 2 out of the 3fastcheapreliablewith a turbo the most important thing is a good tune)

  9. is this everything i need to turbo charge my integra?

so i found this kit on line but does it include everything that i need to turbocharge my integra? thanks http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ACURA-UNIVERSAL-16psi-UPGRADE-T04E-TWIN-TURBO-KIT-AR-63-/170524411822?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Make%3AAcura%7CModel%3AIntegra%7CYear%3A1991&hash=item27b40c07ae

ANSWER: (No this is everything you need to install the turbo BUT you need major engine modifications like forged low-compression ratio pistons and An upgraded valve train. While you are in there you might as well have the engine balanced and you might need camshafts as well though stock cams often work well with turbos. Then you will probably need an entire new ignition system that can be custom mapped to match the engine. Usually bolt on turbo kits result in a ruined engine without professional installation. An engine with more than 50k miles on it will not handle the high cylinder pressure and it will start to smoke and run badly even if it could be driven at all with this kit simply bolted on.The engine will detonate (Preignition spark knock) to the point it will destroy the pistons. If your car is a stock integra most of the drivetrain will handle 600 HP for a few minutes at full tilt then you'll be buying a racing transaxle and clutch and flywheel. Axles and racing CV's.... Your car might be able to survive half that amount of power in stock trim for a while. Front-wheel drive cars are not designed to have that much power. Most stock street cars can't. Chassis get twisted and come apart without strengthening It would make the car unstreetable unless you rebuild and modify everything between the bumpers. And last... YOU cannot handle an integra with 600 horses either, even if by some miracle it ran without the stuff mentioned above 99 of the drivers on the road can't. I would bet that it would break before you killed yourself or someone else but it would be a risky wager..)

  10. what else do i needa buy if i order this turbo kit?

i have enough for the kit n i just gota wait till pay day n i can order it. but is this all i need or am i gona have to order more parts? thanks heres a link to the page theres a description if u scroll down http://www.amazon.com/TURBO-KIT-D15-CIVIC-INTEGRA/dp/B0041QHQY2/ref=pd_rhf_p_img_1

ANSWER: (Dump pipe, waste gate, turbo timer for reliability. Anyway it should all be enough if it claims to be a kit. These are just extra options you can do later on. Blow off valve to release pressure.)

  11. About how much does it cost to get turbo kit installed on my Acura integra?

Already know how much the kit will cost need an estimate on a mechanics price to put it on. also can a regular mechanic do it? NO Ignorant childish comments about foreign vs american cars i dont give a crap. answer the question or dont say sh...twell sht....... it was gonna be a $800 kit from ebay is that a bad idea? i mean the manufacturer selling it has 99% feedback and has sold 18000 items all in the realm of turbo and headers and stuff. now im thinkin otherwise

ANSWER: (OK, first off you are talking about a QUALITY kit right? Not some $800 P.O.S. from ebay. A quality kit will be in the neighborhood of $2,500-$3,500 and then you will need larger fuel pump, injectors, and a tune. Of course no ordinary mechanic can do this, it will have to be tuned by a person with knowledge to do so. The average labor to install a kit that FITS, again going back to a quality kit, will be in the neighborhood of $1,000-$2,000, then the tune can be anywhere from $200-$1,000 depending on what software you use.)

  12. full race turbo Acura Integra?

i have a K20a2 swapped 94 integra gsr... will a full race gt4088 twin scroll turbo kit fit under the hood?money is no problemthe company making the kit is called full race dipshit.....

ANSWER: (If you have the space, anything will fit; just depends on how much you're willing to spend.)

  13. What compression pistons should I get for my integra?

I have a 96 integra gsr with a full greddy turbo kit (18g turbo). The heads fine but I glazed the pistons and need to rebuild my block. I decided that the compression in the motor was too high and I am looking to throw some low compression pistons in it but not sure what compression to use. 9.5:1? 9:1?

    ANSWER: (9.5:1)

  14. what else do i need to upgrade when i add a turbo kit?

ok so i plan on putting a complete turbo kit on my b18 integra. right now im thinkin 10-15 psi. wut else do i need to upgrade to be sure my engine will handle this power safely with no problems. im just saying 10-15 so you have some idea. im not really sure how much i'll set it at.

ANSWER: (adding a turbocharger to a motor is not a "little thing". It's also requires spending lots of extra cash to upgrade some other systems as well. You have to upgrade the head gasket. You'll definitely need to get the tranny beefed up to handle the extra power. Also need extra oil lines/oil pump to lubricate the impeller of the turbo. You'll probably want to get an inter-cooler also, to cool down the density of the increased pressure and for a few extra horsepower too. These are the things that I can think of for now, there may be more - these are the ones that I know of.)

  15. what do i have to do to turbo charge my acura integra 94?

I want to turbo charge my integra 94. What do I have to do? (I have a turbo kit) do I have to do anything to my engine?

ANSWER: (ok. your it should come with the turbo, turbo manifold, wastegate (if it is not an internal wastegate), downpipe, oil feed lines, (water feed lines if needed), intercooler, piping, and BOVyou will need bigger injectors to keep up with the increased air and power.8psi is also a max for stock internals, is pistons, connecting rods, bearings.you will also need an SAFC NEO, or a greddy emanage ultimate to tune the engine for the turbo, you might want to get a standalone ECU such as a Apexi or AEM or megasquirt. all will need professional tuning.boost gauge and oil pressure gauge and a WIDEBAND air to fuel ratio gauge. not narrowband.any questions or comments, add me and email me.-matt (92paseobuild))

  16. how can i get more power and speed out of my integra b18?

so aside from a turbo kit how can i make it faster?

ANSWER: (k &n cold air intake system.uch more horsepower, that, or nitrous)

  17. is this a good turbo set-up for a stock integra? will chose best answer?

This is my first turbo set-up and trying to gather as much info as possible in order not to blow my only car up. I only plan running on 4psi. Biggest problem is I cant buy a chipped ecu because its a 0bd2 automatic.b18b1 motorebay turbo kit190 lph pump10.1 obx FMU275 injectorsany ideas

ANSWER: (Ok, I had missed the OBD1 part on Hondata's site for the ECU, but here's what I've seen. You won't be able to run bigger injectors on the stock ECU, so you will need something like an A'PEXi S-AFC to adjust the fuel trim for bigger injectors. Also, do NOT buy an ebay knockoff turbo. From everything I've ever read for them, they are cheap chinese replicas of real turbos, that are NOT balanced. That means when you spin it to 60,000+RPM of shaft speed, things come apart real easy and destroy your engine. Spend the money on a name brand turbo (IHI, Garrett, Mitusbishi) and know that it won't self-destruct on you the first time you spool. I would also go with a 255lph fuel pump and a boost-referenced fuel pressure regulator, the 255 is only like $15-25 more than the 190, so it's worth it for extra insurance. I haven't heard anything, good or bad, about OBX, but if you're using an FMU, just go with the boost referenced pressure regulator, because a good one is adjustable so you can tune the pressure rise rate right at the regulator, or get a Vortech FMU off ebay. A 10:1 FMU will not do you any good, as at 1psi boost, it would provide 10psi fuel, 2psi-20, 3-30 and 4-40. Your stock fuel system runs on 43-45psi stock, so the FMU would literally do nothing at just 4psi of boost, so you would be wasting your money at that point. Above that, 6-7-8psi, it would work well, but combined with bigger injectors it would probably flood your engine without proper tuning.I would do:ebay intercooler kitGarrett T28/T3 or another internally wastegated turbochargerJGS Tools manifoldGet an exhaust shop to make a downpipe for youWalbro 255lph pumpgood fuel pressure regulator with a boost referencing portApexi S-AFC NeoDIY oil and other lines needed for the turbolarger injectors. With all that you might be able to get it to run somewhat acceptable, but unfortunately with only 4psi, you won't see much for a power increase.)

  18. how to build up my engine for an eventual turbo kit?

I decided in a few years I am going to turbo my 98 integra gsr. it has 157000 miles on it so I am going to build up my entire engine first. whats the best way to go? should I make a ridiculous Frankenstein motor? or just build the shit out of my B18C1? any ideas?

ANSWER: (don't build it first is my advice. first get your turbo kit then build the engine as you go. start out running a low boost so as not to destroy your engine. the b18c1 is a beast of an engine and can take alot of punishment. if you are just starting out with tuning you will be very satisfied with the amount of power you get from the turbo on a stock engine. and definitely don't listen to the guy who says to by a V8 dinosaur engine. the future of racing is smaller forced induction engines.)

  19. what car shops install turbo kits on to cars?

I have a 1997 Acura Integra and i want a turbo kit on it but i want some one to install it like a professinal what shops do that and are the best at it?

ANSWER: ($5k-7k install plus what you paid for the turbo, and you might hit 200 ft-lbs torque, WOOT! jkBut yeah you need to do a search for specialty shops in your area, I don't recommend taking it to Joe on the corner or anything. Do a yellow page search to find a place that specializes with Honda's or imports in general. I guarantee you they've done turbo installs before. Not sure of any chain mechanics that do turbo installs for a decent price so it really depends on your location. The reason a specialty place will be cheaper is because they will be able to do the install a lot faster. Where I'm at shop labor starts at $60 an hour, so experienced worker=huge savings.)

  20. Will a Civic SI Turbo Kit fit an Integra GSR?

My cousin is selling his turbo kit off of his Civic SI and I would like to know if it would fit my integra GSR?

ANSWER: (it will drop right in!!! just add rice)

  21. where can i find a good quality Turbo kit for a really cheap price for An Acura Integra Ls 01 two door. Thanks?

Also, what would the price be, and is a turbo better than a supercharger?

ANSWER: (First off cheap and reliable DO NOT mix with turbo kits. The LEAST you will spend is about $3,000 installed. http://www.turbo-kits.com/integra_turbo_kits.htmlIf you think you can get them cheaper, then I will GUARANTEE that the "kit" will not be complete, you will have to fabricate parts, or you will spend another $2,000 in parts making it work.)

  22. If i put a turbo that makes around 450-500 hp in my stock Integra will it ruin my tranny?

I am trying to put a turbo kit into my 96 integra SE and my friends is telling me something about my tranny not being able to handle that much hp. Is that true?

ANSWER: (Eventually, yes. The Fast and Furious crowd seems to think you can just bolt on a turbo and be done. No. Auto manufacturers make every component to handle a certain amount of force. It would be stupid to build up a tranny to handle 500hp when the engine only makes 200. It would be heavier and more costly. Also with 450-500hp you need to start worrying about the internals/bottom end of your engine. Not to mention you'll need a whole new suspension if you ever plan on using all of that power. 450-500hp in stock FWD Acura = wheel hop extravaganza.)

  23. Turbo acura integra kit Ls 95?

alrite i wanna make my own turbo kit alright IM NOT BUYING ONE OFF EBAY! so wat all do i need? Intercooler, piping, blow off valve, turbo timer wat else??? i have a 95 acura integra ls

ANSWER: (Buy the right parts by going to http://www.clubrsx.com/browse/cr/?fMake=Acura+Integra&fAcura-Integra=94-01+Integra+LS&universal=yes&search=&limit=25)

  24. what is the recommended turbo kit for 1997 acura integra ls w/ vtec using stock internals?

Hey I have a 1997 acura integra LS sports coupe with v-tec and was wondering what is the recommended turbo kit using stock internal and the prices for each...

ANSWER: (you did a LS/Vtec? i dont recommend running boost on it.)

  25. will a turbo kit hurt my 97 integra's engine?

i have a acura integra year '97 and can i install a turbo kit on it? will the turbo kit hurt the engine?

ANSWER: (If your engine has a lot of miles on it like 100k and up the turbo kit will speed up the process towards the death of your engine. That is why a lot of people rebuilt their engine when turbocharging their car I even did it on my Integra and a friends Civic. That also answers your other question, yes you can turbo your engine here is a guide that I have linked. Its a simple guide on how to turbo a honda, i know on the link its a civic but its the same exact thing on a Integra.)

  26. Would you use long rod or short rods for turbo applications on a acura integra?

Im going to stroke out my b18c1 with a brian crower stroker and plan on using low compression pistons as im running a xs engineering stg2 turbo kit for the b18c but the question is when i stroke it should i use a long rod assembly or short rod assembly? and would you use a lightweight crank as well?im building up my parts as we speak actually i would actually like to do 84mm bore with 4340 forged 95mm crank not sure on the bore size for the pistons nor the compression. i was also going to use the bc +1mm valves for intake and exhaust as well. it would be a 2.10L. but wasnt sure if i was gonna need long rods or short rods and looking at 15psi and upwards as well. i did read somewhere that long rods were good on the motor but when using long rods but was told that you couldnt use a big lope cam not sure though first time ive actually had the money and the chance to do a tear down myself....

ANSWER: (The rod assembly is not really a factor you need to consider.Which stroker kit are you using? Are doing the 2.0?Any upgrade will do. Crower is a great name and product. How much do you plan on boosting? Your stock rods will hold up to 12psi. After that they will snap like toothpicks. Surprisingly, the GSR motor is pretty stout when boosted. A lightweight crank is not necessary. You can throw on a lighter crank pulley, but either way will not yield you much a difference. I am happy to see that you upgrading your internals for your boosted application.More information about your application will better help in answering your question. Specs on the kits you are looking at: compression ratio, cam lift and duration, etc...)

  27. On b18c5 whats best all motor or turbo charge?I have $5G budget.Which 1 makes more HP or it make my car faster?

I have a 98 Honda Integra Type R. List the best turbo kit or intake manifold, header and cat back exhaust.Car weight 2200lb.

ANSWER: (First you need to learn more about your car it dosent weigh 2200lb unless gutted a bit. NA is great but the cost for make the same hp or less compared to a turbo isnt worth it. A full built Na car requires more then a intake manifold and exhaust theres many ways you can bore out the motor get high compersiion piston and rods ported head different cams and itbs and only make 240-260whp compare on pump gas and cost $4-5000 including a tune and ecu. Turbo kit $2600-3200 complete tune and ecu like hondata $800. Con is Type R hight compersion. Best bet would be swap out the piston and rods for lower comperssion and boost it.)

  28. What kind of turbo for acura?

What brand and model of turbo kit should i get for my 1.8 liter non-vtech integra?

ANSWER: (actually for lower boost installations a supercharger is preferable to a turbo (both systems deliver the same increase in power when installed at equivalent levels of boost):a supercharger installation is :-lighter (no pipes/plumbing) , runs cooler-easier & cheaper to install-delivers power more quickly & in a more linear fashion.-easier/cost effective to move to higher levels of boost (change a pulley)your stock engine can handle a mild boost - say 5 or 6 lbs, which will give you an increase of +35% in hp over stock and much of that will be delivered to the wheels.you will require the following modifications:-cold air intake & throttle body space-performance exhaust, catback-performance headers-re tune of the engine's management system (pro-shop tune)because forced induction creates high level of heat/stress on an engine, to prevent engine failure- if you want to exceed mild boost levels you are advised to build out your engine:-bottom end, forged pistons/rods-top end, race headshttp://www.supercharger.com/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexID=38961its a rush (to the answerer "the evil"...no way will a properly prepared honda compare to a supercharged one-you just do not have a clue) this will make you serious quick.cheers, 04 cobra)

  30. What turbo kit should i get with a nonvtec 1.8 L integra engine? i want 100 more hp but only want to spend 800?

Also i'm not exactly sure how much my original engine had either any answers?

ANSWER: (No turbo kits for $800? I could prove that wrong with a simple trip to your local Pull-a-Part: First things first, lets look at your stock engine and see how much horsepower is 100 more than stock. I assumed that your non-VTEC engine is placed in an LS, and found a crank power figure of 142hp, and 127 lb-ft torque. Assuming a 15% loss in the drivetrain and a strong engine, your car should be making about 121whp and about 108wtq.I had a long explanation of what to buy and where to buy it, but instead I will throw a couple links in the sources that will help you along your way. $800 might be a stretch, but $1000 shouldnt be too hard. Don't forget that Ebay and junkyards are your friends in this endeavour. One other thing: The civic HF/VX manifold listed in the article will NOT work on your B18. You will have to get a log manifold or a tubular manifold.)
