Audi Turbo Kit FAQ

Should I put a turbo and a chip on an A4, or should I get a 350z/audi TT quattro 3.2?
I have an audi A4 but I want something faster. It is an automatic transmission and it is the 2.0T. I am debating either chipping the A4 and putting some kind of turbo kit on it, possible other upgrades. Or I can just get rid of it and get an 350Z. There is currently an audi TT quattro 3.2L for sale with 75,000 miles for 23k which is lookin pretty nice right about now too. Any feedback, info about the turbo kits, or cars would be greatly appreciated as well.
ANSWER: (Your car already has a turbocharger on it. . .)

Black W/ Chrome Trim 2004 (B6) Audi S4 upgrades?
Ok so you know what car I have and I already know its a gorgeous car so no worries i'm never ever going to put a stupid spoiler on it or underglow kit. I'm going for the look of subtle yet deadly sophistication if that makes sense. It's the 4.2L V8 so I can't really put a turbo on unless its a custom job costing around 8 grand so thats out of the picture.Try to keep any suggestions $1500 and below if you can.A few things I had in mind are:Changing interior trim from wood to carbon fiber (opinion?)Switching out stock headlights for R8 style or another. (suggestions?)I've tried to find a vented hood somewhere but haven't anywhere. (help?)Sway bars would be nice but are they that big of a difference?Multi-toned Recaro Seats. I like the black with white or black with red. Too Expensive?Supercharger possibly? (help?)If you have any other suggestions on how I can enhance the look I'm going for please tell. Thanks everyone.Oh I almost forgot, I also thought about getting it chipped so yeah, anyone have the know how in that area?
ANSWER: (Chipping is going to be the best performance upgrade for the money. There's superchargers for your car but your looking into a lot of money. Companies you could look into are APR and PES tuning. No need for sway bar upgrades unless you decide to change any more of the suspension. Your suspension is already "tuned" from the factory so its not necessary. Looks are in the eyes of the beholder. Don't do something to the look of your car because you think someone you have never met will think highly of it. Especially if it changes the feel or the comfort. Remember that you are the one spending most of the time in it. Do what you like.)

Audi A4 Avant (B6) 3.0 V6 aftermarket parts?
I drive the above car and I'm looking to give my car a little more jump, a full exhaust system or new ECU, maybe a turbo or super kit, but I can't for the life of me find ANYTHING for my car. I've trolled over many a website looking for parts but there is almost nothing for this model. Does anyone know where I could find a site or company for this model, or can explain the absence of parts?
ANSWER: (Check the apr site for a ecu, also PES has a lot of audi superchargers.)

How much would it cost to turn a 2008 Audi TT to look like this? (just parts).?
http://www.egmcartech.com/2008/04/22/hpas-565-horsepower-2008-audi-tt/How much will this cost? Here are some details:I don't want any engine mods.I Just don't want turbo anything that isn't already on the car.I want paint, body kit, vertical doors, trim, and other orange-visual things. I also would like the rims, or I could just paint them.It says the approx. Cost of the car (upgrades) is $60,000, but I just want visual. How much would each upgrade cost? Accurately please, but it doesn't have to be precise (ex. 4563.84-4500 would work.
ANSWER: (i dont think it would be that much maybe $5-7k at the most maybe a lil cheaper!)

where can i find a turbo or supercharger kit for my 94 audi 90 CS quattro, is any other engine compatible?
ANSWER: (I love Audi's too. Call 1-800-All-Audi. They will probably know. Which engine do you have now? Perhaps the twin-turbo 2.7 might fit. It's the same size as the 2.8. Good luck!!)

Is there any difference between the 2003 audi a4 and the a4 quattro?
I am asking because i just bought an air intake kit for my audi. Mine is the Audi A4 quattro 1.8l turbo charged.
ANSWER: (If the air intake is for the 1.8T engine you should be fine. One model year won't make a difference. That engine has been around a long time. The difference between a regular A4 and a quattro is the quattro has AWD.)

VW Golf VR6 Turbo/mod help?
I am getting a car in may, my dad is co signing for a non-turbo car only, i know it sucks. so when i get the car i am going to turbo it with my own money. I was looking at the golf vr6's 2000-2005. i am new with vw's so i need some help. what is the mk3, mk4, mk's? what is the difference? What is the best? what has the most potential? would this turbo be fine? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-START-TWIN-TURBO-KIT-VW-GOLF-JETTA-AUDI-CORRADO-VR6_W0QQitemZ260363797883QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting any more information would be awesome!!!
ANSWER: (Ok first off, the "mk" are basically the models/bodystyles. Right now it goes from mk1 to mk5 (oldest to newest). The golfs from 2000-2005 are considered mk4. the previous years are mk3 mk2 and mk1. The newer the model, usually the more reliable it is. Also if the model is newer there will be more parts that are available. As of right now mk4's have the most tuning capabilities. If you are going to turbo your car I would recommend getting a turbo made specifically for vws. Its gonna cost you around $2000 to $4000. Also make sure to know whether the vr6 is a 12valve or 24valve.here are some samples:http://www.ctsturbo.com/catalog/MK4_24V_VR6_Turbo_Kits-38-1.htmlhttp://www.ctsturbo.com/catalog/MK4_12V_VR6_Turbo_Kits-46-1.html)

what does exc. Turbo mean on cold air kits?
i need a cold air kit and one kit says 1999 AUDI A4 1.8L L4 F/I - exc. Turbo while the others says turbo. which one do i need?
ANSWER: (does your car have a turbo? i guess it will help if you know what the difference is, a cold air intake hooks up to your throttle body so when you press on the gas it sucks in air. An air intake for a turbo hooks up to the turbo so it can compress the air and then send it to your engine, i haven't looked at air intake's for turbo's bc the kit im buying comes with a K&N for the turbo already, but ill look at it and see what it says, i would assume they would be labeled differently i hope that helps)

Can a twin turbo kit fit on a 2008 Audi A4 2.0t ?
I no this seems bit out there but i only ask because the RS4 is twin turboed and uses the same engine bay. (btw can it work on a auto, or only stick). thanks
ANSWER: (No... the 2.0 is a inline engine meaning that it only needs one turbo... the S4 is a v6 and needs to be balanced on both sides of the engine...There is no single turbo V style engined carjust remver if its a v6 v8 v10 or v12 its gotta have a twin turboit its an inline 4, 5 , or 6 it is going to have a single turbo on it)

1998 Audi A8 V8 4.2 5spd... supercharge or turbo?
I want to supercharge my 1998 A8. Should i go for a Turbo? What kind of supercharger ? where to order the kit? Shell i get involved in this project? Estimate cost. Would i be better of trading it for a turbo VW, a GTI or Jetta or what is your hint? I need a fast "toy" but already have the A8 witch i love.
ANSWER: (Great car, but generally in terms performance additions there is not a huge aftermarket.A turbocharger, and a supercharger both serve same purpose and provide equivalent power increase when they are installed at the same boost levels.Generally for low boost installations (which yours would be) a supercharger tends to be more effective as its lighter, runs cooler and usually is less expensive. Installation costs are certainly much lower.Generally power delivery from a supercharger engages earlier and is more linear than a turbo.Turbo's are well suited to higher boost installations or where there is limited engine compartment space or where a standard application is not available and a custom set up has to be fabricated using a "universal" turbine.Your car is ideal for extra power, but performance does not come cheap.Motodyne does have, I think a bolt on installation available for your car: http://www.motodyne.com/frames/4.2LSC.html this provides - at engagement a 50% increase over stock hp.By reversing the formula for hp increase from forced induction I calculate this as a typical mild boost (for stock installation) of about 7psi.The addition of 125hp would make the car seriously quick. Cost of the kit is approx. $10,000, plus unless you can do the installation yourself, shop & labor time at a performance shop. All in with a pro-tune to reset the engine's management system I would expect you are looking at 3days labor.Lastly bcause of the extreme power delivery of forced induction (regardless of supercharger or turbo) the existing engine may have to be upgraded to handle heat and extra stresses involved. At the very least, performance (forged) bolts and possibly a build out of the bottom end with forged internals. This is hard to estimate and is dependent on the extent to which the stock engine has to be prepared to provide for margin of safety.A turbo installation, all in I expect will be the same or a little more (less for required parts, far more for labor and custom fabrication). I recommend, you get on an Audi owners forum, lots of owners have gone where you are considering going - and are happy to share information/recommendations.Perhaps herehttp://forums.audiworld.com/a8/msgs/175795.phtml Hope this assists with your decision (personally I would enhance your existing car vs. buying smaller VW product....but thats really your call). regards, {engineer (owner of past/present supercharged cars, fan of forced induction)}.)

Car Racing Stripes (sticker) question?
I have a 2003 Audi A4 1.8 turbo (amulet red)I wante to try and add a double racing stripes to it (like a sticker).By searchign arround, on ebay etc...i could only find these sticker for cars like mustangs, camaro etc...Does anyone know any providers, that sell them for audi's (except for the dealership, cuz the always want a tonn of $$$).Or any suggestions in general about that? Kits? thanks
ANSWER: (Suggestions in general? Don't. Seriously. Racing stripes, were cool about 30 years ago. Now, they're cool, only to those who haven't realized that it's not still 30 years ago. The Audi A4 is a great looking car. Please don't ruin it by something as passe' as racing stripes.)

I want to turbo charge my 2004 audi a4 3.0 where could i get a kit to install one?
ANSWER: (Well, since both the 3.0 and the 2.8 do not have very tunable engines, AND the 3.0 is already a very very nice engine as it is...I would recommend going in a slightly different direction. Facing facts, the 3.0 was simply not made to be turbo charged...Since you are obviously wanting to increase the performance of your 3.0, your going to need to do that another way besides a turbo system. This is just my suggestion (Not trying to be pushy)...But the bottom line is that if you are going to make performance increases in an A4 3.0, not only is a turbo system impractical, but also there are more efficient ways to increase the performance while at the same time spending less money than you would with the turbo My personal suggestion would be the following: Chip (preferably Watterauer brand): ~$400 K&N air filter: ~$50Labor: ~$150 Making your grand total about $600...as opposed to spending 2K+ on a turbo system The reason why I suggest going with the K&N air filter as opposed to a cold air intake is because (a) there is no cold air intake system specifically designed for the 3.0 because the stock airbox in the 3.0 is already designed to handle 400hp, so you would be wasting your money (b) the K&N air filter would only produce about 5hp less than the cold air intake system, thus making the cold air intake a waste of $300 in this case.... scottyshades@yahoo.com if you have more questions)

Audi A4 2004 b6 1.8T Turbo (GT28RS or GT2871)?
hi, i have a 2004 Audi a4 and i want to put a bigger turbo on it...well, i want it to run safely on stock internals...but push some good power..i was reccomended the GT28RS kit..which it will push about 300-350hp and also i got reccomended the GT2871R which can push up to 400hp...but im going to need to change rods..supposedly...so what do you reccomend i do or any advice or input... thanks you

ANSWER: (With a turbo, sometimes bigger is better. But just going bigger is not better. When ever you increase horsepower in a vehicle, you run the risk of damaging stock parts. A rule of thumb is going with bigger aftermarket turbos, the intercooler should also be change. Your going to be pushing more hotter air that needs to be cooled. Also your looking at approx 650 - 800 for a good sized turbo not including installation (unless you or someone you know does it). I suggest if its just a horsepower issue that you add a cold air intake, full exhaust (headers to muffler) intercooler with piping and a boost controller. This will run you slightly more in actually cost, but the payout will be worth it. Do this first then move on to the turbo. This the way I went and it worked for me just great.)

If a blowoff valve is installed in a car with stock turbo, will it make any noise?
Im thinking about purchasing a 2000 Audi with stock Turbo. It already has a cool air intake. If I install a blowoff valve, will it make any noise or do I have to get a staged turbo kit to get any sound?Edited question then. First, thanks for the informative answers. Second, I didnt install the cold air intake, so no money lost. New question: Is there anything I can do to make the car obtain that "whoosh" sound from the turbo? Is that possible, or should I just stop caring so much? Thanks again.
ANSWER: (1. Your cold air intake is not doing anything for your car. A turbo car does not gain anything from a cold air intake, since the air is already as compressed as it can be, by the turbo. So, sorry, but that was a waste of money. You might have even lost power due to that.2. If you already have a bypass valve on your car, you don't need another one. Especially if you have a stock turbo.3. Since you refer to it as a blow off valve, I'll assume you want one that vents to the atmosphere. You do not need this.4. A vent to atmosphere type blowoff valve will hurt your vehicle's performance, because it changes the amount of metered air that is registered by your ecu. In the long run, this can cause serious damage to your engine. Nevermind that it will also cause a loss of performance.5. Never buy something just because of the sound.)

What a turbo that thats stronger than a stock turbo in a Jetta GLI 1.8l?
I was woundering if this turbo is stronger than the stock turbo in my car because i want more power out of it. Thanks for your help. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/99-04-AUDI-A3-A4-1-8T-T3-T4-TURBO-KIT-20V-VW-GOLF-JETTA_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33742QQihZ022QQitemZ350054774397QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
ANSWER: (You may not need a different turbo. You may only need a boost controller.Take a good look at the kit, what does it have that you do not already have?An inter cooler? If I was going to upgrade a turbo charger, I would make sure that it was not a cheap China look-alike.I would also go to one that is both oil and water cooled like a TD05.My punch line is just get a boost controller and a bigger inter cooler.)

Can you point me towards resources for modifying a mid-90's Ford Probe?
I am looking for a reliable output of up to 300HP (turbo, cams, other engine parts), without nitrous. A nice body kit and styish wing without going to outlandish preportions.Although it would cost a mint, does anyone know of a conversion to all wheel drive for the Probe? I ask, because I really like the advantages of all wheel drive like Subaru and Audi and the earlier Eclipse.Web links are greatly appreciated.
ANSWER: (As far as I can tell there are no turbo kits avalible, but do like I did with my SC400 get a Garrett GT35R turbo and weld flanges on your stock manifold (or get a custom, high flow manifold) Customize your intercooler and go with that. You will have to drill a hole in the oil pan for a feed line but other than that you should be good. You will also need some kind of gas system. Upgraded fuel rail and injectors would be good and a piggy back or FMU would be good too. Look on the ford Forums and see what others are doing. As for as the AWD, stay with what you have, you dont need to spend the money. It would be cool. Let me know how it goes!)

Where is the best, most complete source for modifying a mid 90's Ford Probe GT?
I am looking for a reliable output of up to 300HP (turbo, cams, other engine parts), without nitrous. A nice body kit and styish wing without going to outlandish preportions.Although it would cost a mint, does anyone know of a conversion to all wheel drive for the Probe? I ask, because I really like the advantages of all wheel drive like Subaru and Audi and the earlier Eclipse.Web links are greatly appreciated. Thanks for the 1st answer. I am pretty sure that the AWD is just a dream. I just wondered if anyone has done it and how.The body kits and Engine mods are out there, but I don't know who or where. HKS? Mazdaspeed?
ANSWER: (All the work needed to get what you want is going to cost you probably in the $15,000 - $20,000 range. Do you just really REALLY like the probe? For the money, I would buy a used STI, you got your AWD and 300 hp stock with no alterations. Also be aware that when you customize a car to the degree you want to, you will never be able to sell it. Even performance car junkies would be warry of a vehicle with a changed out drivetrain and power plant. If you still want to go forward, you would have to take your car to a custom shop, the swap you are looking for is extremely uncommon so I doubt you'll find a kit, you have to get a shop to custom fabricate brackets, mountings, cut new frame holes for drivetrain, install etc. etc. Also, your AWD drivetrain will add significant weight so your suspension will probably need to be adjusted/upgraded as well.)

I have a 1992 VW Jetta 1.8L can i use this turbo?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Audi-Volkswagen-A4-TT-Golf-GTI-1-8T-T3-T4-Turbo-Kit-20v_W0QQitemZ270198652082QQihZ017QQcategoryZ33742QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem first off is that legit, and second even though its for a newer model car can i still put it on my engine? if no what would i need to change on my engine to make that work
ANSWER: (This kit will not work for your car because it was made for a VW 1.8t 20v. Which means the car is a 1.8 liter and has 20 vavles and already has a turbo for it. You have a 1.8 non turbo and also it has 8 vavles. The internals on your car's engine will not be able to handle the addition power produced by the turbo. Also most turbo kits on ebay are offer cheap because they are very unreliable and cheaply put together kits. To turbo charge you car you are looking at a big investment due to the engine and the design of the car. You can try http://www.kineticmotorsport.com/blog/ and http://www.atpturbo.com/ both these companies have great feedback and have years of experierence dealing with modifying volkswagens.)

Anybody know if i can find a supercharger or turbo kit for a 1996 Audi A4 Quattro 2.8L V6 5spd?
turbo or super charger kit...need help cant find a thing! only cold air and spark plugs...=\
ANSWER: (you would have to go custom on the 12valve it would not be cost effective cheaper to sell the 12 valve buy a 98 or newer and put the pes charger on it. Unless your looking for a project id upgrade cars. the link is to a wright up on a custom 12v 2.8. keep in mind you cannot run much boost without upgrading the internals in that engine you really are better off selling the car and spending some money on an Audi with a more tunable engine. the secound link is some things you can do without the charger.)

1997 Audi A4 Quattro - TURBO-Nitrious..???
I have a Audi A4 Quattro, and i wanted to install a turbo on it, but i also wanted to put nitrious. My question is can i install both without messing up the motor? And where can i find a nice turbo kit for the audi?
ANSWER: (I'm assuming you have a 2.8 not a 1.8 the 1.8 already has a turbo and yes you can put on both with the proper setup and tune it wont hurt the engine. With the turbo setup its going to cost you BIG $! nos. is a much better bang for your buck! I know of a good place that does performance work on Audi's LINEAR MOTORS 715-823-4000)
