Ford Turbo Kit FAQ

is there a turbo kit for a 1996 302 ford f150?
I tried looking online, but with no luck. I did see some kits for the 302 stangs, but not too familiar with how that would work. Thanks
ANSWER: (its not the same as the stangs. For one thing your truck is OBDII, and there are a ton of little differences. you would be best served by going heads/cam, with AFR 185s and a E cam you will make good, streetable power. OR for even more try AFR 205 and an F cam. If thats still not enough, theres always nitrous. It would still be way cheaper and easier than a fabbed up turbo kit, plus youd have fresh heads)

I have a 1999 Ford Taurus and I want to put a body kit on it?
I have enough money for a body kit and turbo. My 1999 Ford Taurus is ugly but with the body kit and turbo I think it would be beastly. What do you think, and what would be the cost of this?
ANSWER: (Don't do it. The transmission in a Taurus will never hold up to a turbo.)

What all does a Turbo Kit replace on a car? Where can I find one for an '01 Ford Mustang 3.8L V6?
Doesn't it replace at least one of the headers? I was looking for a twin turbo kit and couldn't find any for sale new, just used and custom built. I found two different turbo kits both around $4000 with 8 PSI and promising 375 to the rear. I was going to buy long tube headers but got the thought why bother if I am seriously going to install the turbo kit.
ANSWER: (Turbo doesn't replace the headers, it forces air into your intake mainfold, so the air intake its already equipped with has to come off, and don't turbo a mustang, go for the supercharger it will have a better displacemtn, and if you need one for 4000 or less i'd use americanmuscle.com i have a 2002 mustang gt and i shop on there all the time)

Where can I buy a Twin Turbo Kit for a 3.8 V6 2001 Ford Mustang?

ANSWER: (Try Hunters custom automotive website, also check Banks Turbo out)

is there a turbo kit for my dad's 1999 ford escort se 2.0L?
we don't have the money for a new car, but he doesn't want a new one yet anyway, so we thought putting a turbo on his car would be pretty awesome, but so far after all my websearching i have yet to discover a turbo that is specified to for his 2.0L Ford Escort se. Help!---to kenny--- are you an idiot? i think you are because my dads escort is a very nice well maintained vehicle, i know for a fact i could NOT buy a better car for $2000. seriously, you tell me what car i could buy for that thats better than my dads escort (which he bought with low miles for about 5 grand)? its people like you who don't understand value that have given America a bad reputation.
ANSWER: (Join the Ford Escort Owners Association on the web. Those guys are always playing with turbos and usually someone on there has one for sale. www.feoa.netThe 99 Escort would probably have a SPI 2.0 in it. Pretty strong engine.)

Help finding a turbo for my thunderbird?
thanks for looking, I searched everywhere for a turbo for my 87 ford thunderbird 4 cyl coupe. its impossible. if you can find a turbo,I will consider a rebuild kit. thanks in advance for your help
ANSWER: (They can still be found in the junkyards. '85-6 cars used the very popular Garret T3 turbo which is readily available new and rebuilt. 1987-8 cars used a Japanese "Ishi-Warner" which is indeed hard to find as it was used only on these cars. Try Car-Part.com, they have some listed in various salvage yards. If you get desperate, consider getting what you need from the older Tbird/Cougar or any Merkur XR4Ti to retrofit the larger T3 turbo. New, used, and upgraded T3 turbos abound on Ebay. You would to change a few parts, a T3 won't bolt directly on in place of an Ishi-Warner.)

Ford Ranger Speakers and Speed boosts?
i have a 1999 ford ranger it is a 4.0l 6cyl [X] Fuel Injected(That is what is on my jiffy lube receipt =) ) It only has its factory speakers installed so what are some good (cheapish) speakers to put it with bass do i need to get kickers? Are there any Drawings/Plans for this? And as far as speed is there anyway to make it go faster? Turbo Kit? If so where can i get one and can i put it in myself to save money? Thank You
ANSWER: (First off is your question of the speakers. There are many options on this issue. You don't mention if you want to replace the originals with new, but in the same location, or if you are wanting to install all in some external enclosures. Or, are you wanting to replace the originals with better ones in the original location, plus add some others? Not knowing these makes it difficult to give good, and complete info. However, I can give you information on how to tell if a speaker is of a better quality. Every speaker must have a magnet. The quality of the magnet determines if the speaker is really a good quality, long lasting speaker, and one that can take high volume without distortion, and damage to the voice coils. Speakers designed to be good will have a very large, powerful magnet. The large magnet is necessary to drive the voice coils to high levels without distortion, and damage. With the large magnet the voice coils are also designed to be driven by the amount of power that can be generated by the magnet. Don't listen to sales people who are not professionally licensed technicians. (I didn't say, 'certified'.) They just want to sell their brand, and not even very well known brands are any better quality than some cheapies. Shop first for the speakers that meet the criteria I have mentioned for the best deal, then, if you want different enclosures, shop for the enclosure you want. Buying mere 'stock' speakers with enclosures never gets you the best ones. Now, another, and very separate issue for the speakers is what you call 'kickers'. There is no such terminology, unless used by those who really don't know much. What you are talking about is an amplifier. This can be one that is made to fit each speaker, or one that is made to drive several speakers. Getting more elaborate, you can even get amplifiers that will drive many speakers, and can also control the sound by treble, and bass control of the speakers you have. 'Mixers' is a term used when the amplifier can also control the addition of other sounds, and many times even reverberation. Getting into these extra products is where you can't find any in the retail market that are cheap. Many are cheap quality, but very high prices. You would be better off just getting a small amplifier for each speaker instead as no speaker system put into such a small space as a car can ever give you a real good sound quality. Loud, yes, but never really a good quality. They can, and do cause hearing damage over time, and if the speakers are not of a good, high quality, will also damage them as well. (For a vehicle such as a car, or truck, no amplifier system over an actual 20 watts is good for the ears. Most systems sold in retail today listed as some high wattage are not a true wattage drive to speakers anyway. They are just damaging to everything, and very costly.) Stick to just good quality speakers in the frequency ranges you want, and maybe small, voltage powered amplifiers for each speaker, but keep the drive watts down to the rating of each speaker. Now, to the issue of making your car 'faster'. You mention a "Turbo Kit". First, do you have more money than sense? They can be pricey. Your engine should be able to handle one, but the cost, and the extreme detail in installing one that would perform well can be outside the limits of your pocketbook, and ability. I would not recommend such a addition unless you were racing, but you don't have a good vehicle for this. A Ford Ranger is not balanced for this. You can do a great number of things to make it go faster at a top end speed, or bottom end takeoff speed. I said "OR". You can't have both if you want extremes. The best one can do is to add just enough to the engine to give it an overall performance increase in speed, and takeoff. There are a number of things that can be done to increase this overall performance. Most times a person would just rebuild the engine with great care. A change in the cam, and crank, as well as improvements on the heads could do a good bit on this. Also, your fuel delivery system might need some 'tweaking', or even a change. But, with your model you would also need a change in your ECM, or a complete change in that as well. I would suggest a lot more reading of engines, and electrical systems to find out what all can be done, and the cost involved. The internal combustion engine has not changed one bit since its invention, but man has added a lot of extra to it to make it much more expensive, but in no way improved the engine itself. Man has sacrificed much of the natural performance of the engine by the extras at a great expense, but have not changed, nor improved the engine from the original invention. Every internal combustion engine requires only four things to run: Fuel, Air, Spark, and to)

I have a Ford F-150 5.4L 1997, and I want a turbo charger kit, how much?
Im looking to invest in a turbo charger kit, from what I've heard they cost about 4,500 dollars. then I found one on ebay for 900, but I really don't know what Im buying. I want the performance, but I'm mainly looking for the blow off sound it makes. Is their anyway I can produce this sound without the kit ?
ANSWER: (the 900 dollar turbo charger on ebay situation... its probably just the turbo. but i have been looking at twin turboing my 5.4 litre and its pretty spendy... if your not running alot of boost to the engine it'll handle it. the 5.4's are supercharged in the lighting models and your basically running the same engine just no supercharger. but stay low in boost and watch your turbo(s) you should be just fine.)

can i use a mazda turbo kit on a focus?
i have a 2007 ford focus my buddie wrecked his 2006 mazda 3 it has a turbo kit on it can i use it on my car or is that not interchangeable
ANSWER: (usually its not. You have to see if the piping fits your car, and if the headers fit the same, the spacing between headers is the main point, you can use the turbo though, just the turbo, not the piping, I guess the innercooler too, but the piping and exhaust and headers will have to be custom made. ♥hєαthєrlчnnє♥™)

How much horsepower can my stock internals handle on my 1997 ford mustang 3.8L v6?
cause i wanted to get a turbo kit for it. everything now is stock except for cai and stage 1 clutch going in in about 2-3 weeks. should i do anything else with transmission/gears?
ANSWER: (not over 200, but you won't get that with 5 lbs of boost.. you might try a 97 Explorer 4.0 SOHC V6 with 210 hp stock or a 90-94 Thunderbird Supercoupe 3.8 SC with 210 hp using 10 lbs boost.. this is the engine you want with factory forged internals..it can handle 15 lbs boost..and is a direct bolt in..plus it is plentiful at boneyards..)

Where can I find a Turbo Kit for a 2004 Ford Focus Saleen with a 2.0 4-Cylinder engine?
I have the nitrous kit for the car, but I'm looking for more power.
ANSWER: (your best option may be a supercharger. Both a s'charger and a turbo are forced induction systems and create the same increase in HP when installed at equivalent levels of induction ("boost"). Generally a supercharger is lighter, easier & cheaper to install, runs cooler and delivers power earlier than a turbohttp://focus.c-f-m.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=988 http://www.andysautosport.com/ford/2000_2004_focus/performance/turbos_and_superchargers/supercharger_kits/procharger/ your other performance option is ....what the saleen did with the focus in 05, and install a nitrous kit.http://www.netcarshow.com/saleen/2005-ford_focus_s121_n2o/ this would be much less money of course....and can provide you with the same kick. it creates no more, no less heat or stress on an engine than a forced induction systemhttp://www.andysautosport.com/ford/2000_2004_focus/performance/nitrous_oxide/nitrous_oxide_kits/saleen/ it would be preferable to install performance headers with any of the above. regards, owner past & present of supercharged cars, fan of forced induction)

How much more HP can a turbo kit normally give you your car?
how much more HP can a Turbo Kit Give a car for example a Ford Probe SE OR MAZDA Mx6 16v OR 24V Cars
ANSWER: (It is faily easy to answer. Atmosheric pressure at sea level is about 14.7 psi. So if you boost 5psi the motor thinks it is 33% bigger and add 33% more Hp. Add 15psi you get 100% more Hp. This is with suffence fuel and no other changes. Add a cam shaft and heads and turbo you will get the cam and heads Hp added to base line then add boost increase.)

Dose anyone know where to get a Turbo kit for a 95 Ford Mustang???Im having a hard time finding one online?
Im wanting to buy a Ford Mustang for my 18th birthday and fix it up.The first thing I want to buy though is a turbo kit, sence im just getting into this am I susposed to buy other things first or what? I want a FULL AMERICAN CAR.THE RICERS ARE PISSIN ME OFF AND I WANT TO SHOW THEIM ALL UP!!! So please can anyone help me? Thank you for your help if you can
ANSWER: (It may be worth looking at the Mustang forums to see which is the best one to buy to match other mods you will be doing or will need to do to the car before and after, you don't want to add one mod to lead to loss of power or problems elsewhere and also the forums will give you the best and safest places to buy the parts from.Is it that bad in the US with the Import and American scene, its hard for me to understand as my local club we are a mix of Japanese and American Muscle cars, unless that is what it is,is it under cc cars showing off against your cars,or against Import cars in general. It would be a shame to see American Muscle cars and Japanese Muscle cars fall out as i have some good American Muscle car friends. So i hope you don't class all no American cars owners the same. After all nowdays who owns what i was watching on the news yesterday about about Opel in trouble as GM and Chevrolet was in trouble and they are part of the same group,I know Nissan and Ford have also had similar problems as they have factories which they share to make certain models of cars together like in the past the Nissan Terrano which is the Ford Maverick and Toyota again in trouble as it has factories and shares with GM.)
