Nissan Turbo Kit FAQ

  1. Twin turbo for VQ30DE in a Maxima?

I can't seem to find a twin turbo kit for the VQ30DE engine anywhere. I know a VQ30DETT exists though. Nissan used it in some of their super GT cars. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

ANSWER: (Turbo chargers on the sides of a maxima motor will take up room. Room not in a front wheel drive car. And routing of the exhaust out of the turbos in rear wheel drive cars is to the rear. On a font wheel drive car that would mean exhaust blowing to the left right onto the differential and transmission unable to route to the rear. Heat from the turbos would overheat the steering rack and might melt the cooling fans. I do not know of a twin turbo Maxima but I bet some one has really spent money trying to build one. Good Luck)

  2. 1986 nissan 300zx turbo (sleepy eyes)?

Well I am learning a ton of stuff each and everyday about my Z car. But I was wondering how to make my flip up head lights turn on when they are in the down position. (Sleepy Eyes) Is it as simple as replacing some fuses or do I have to get a whole kit? Please help me out.

ANSWER: (Ask and you shall receive!!! Be careful though, this can dramatically reduce light output.)

  3. How much would it cost to twin turbo a Z32 300zx?

I have an N/A1989 Nissan 300zx Z32, and i would like to twin turbo it, but how much (rough estimate) would it cost for a mechanic/specialist shop to put in two turbos into it. Or is it more cost effective to swap the motor out for a TT motor, and then buy all the other parts like intercooler kits ect.

    ANSWER: (Around $10,000)

  4. Where can i find a good quality turbo kit for my 2002 2.5L Nissan Altima? POST #2?

Not enough answers in the first post Im looking for a turbo kit for my 2002 2.5L nissan altima. I dont want some crappy quality e-bay kit, i want something legit but cant find it anywhere. Does anyone know any websites i can buy it from or car shops?i dont need someone to tell me that my 4 cyl is weak and not worth upgrading. i already own an 05 altima SE-R, and a T72 Supradont forget my altima is a 2002 2.5L 4cyl QR25DE engine. its not a V6. if you post a link for a turbo kit it should fit exactly for my car. i've been looking around and cant find any legit kit for my car. thanks for all the help.Ive already fixed up my other 2 cars.

ANSWER: (well if you have an 05 altima se-r why not upgrade that instead? the vq35de is already powerful as it is. thats the 350z motor btw though the sentra se-r has the same qr25de motor it has major modding potential. so finding a good turbo shouldnt be too hard to find i already posted my link on your rpeviosu post, i wont post it again)

  5. How much would it cost me to put a turbo kit in my 2008 nissan altima 2.5?

ANSWER: (2.5 liter motor with forced induction might not last. How close the cooling fans are to the exhaust might be a real problem room for intercoolers. With lots of cash almost anything is possable. Are you sure you want to have another 10,000 tied up in a sedan when you could sell out and buy a 370z sports car?)

  6. where can i find a good quality turbo kit for my 2002 2.5L Nissan Altima?

Im looking for a turbo kit for my 2002 2.5L nissan altima. I dont want some crappy quality e-bay kit, i want something legit but cant find it anywhere. Does anyone know any websites i can buy it from or car shops?

ANSWER: (i own a 2003 altima and have wondered the same thing myself. the 2.5 is called the QR25DE motor. They do have turbo kits available as this is the same motor used in the nissan sentra se-r spec-v produced between 2002 and now. in my opinion the QR25DE motor has amazing potential. i have found several on different sites which i'll post here http://www.importeast.ca/powertech/turbokits/altimakit/altimakit.html the first url lists a turbo kit for $4300 http://www.streetbeatcustoms.com/Custom/Turbo-Charger-Kit/Altima-QR25-Turbocharger-Kit/549013/ the second is for $1650 you can find some good deals on ebay if you look hard enough you will find the right price and a great quality kit you, as well as i, should have bought the V6 altima, then we would not need a turbo kit (we could buy one for the vq35de motor and have a 4 door supercar if we wanted to though how sweet would that be?))

  7. Is a nissan 180sx turbo or a nissan r33 skyline turbo faster (re ask)?

Thanks to tricky for all his help in the previous question. But to get a little closer to what I want to know: Basically if I was to buy a nissan 180sx or r33 skyline off of carsales or a site like that and they were both turboed but not tuned right up which would win off the lights? And if I was to buy a 180sx and race say cars like a commodore off the lights would My 180sx keep up and or win? I want to buy a car with enough speed and power to keep up with some cars, say I pull up at the lights and a car revs at Me say once again a commodore, I want to be able to keep up with if not beat them. But I also want a car with a nice body kit and good interior and sound system. This is why I am looking at the nissan 180sx and the nissan r33 skyline because to Me bopth of those cars have them. Thanks in advance for ur help (again).I live in South Australia, both cars are legal here. But I don't see too many 180sxs on the road or for sale which is why I sorta am thinking of buying an r33 skyline, but I wanna know if the 180sx is a fast enough car before I make that decisionAlso the reason I'm looking at skyline is because there are a lot of them up for sale and they are between the $8000-$15000 mark where as 180sxs are $13000-19000. These prices are for reasonable ones with body kits, sound systems and good condition.

ANSWER: (hey mate if i was you i would not get either i would get a nissan silvia too many people are going around in skylines.(Well here in Sydney). Skylines are a V6 and are very heavy compared to a 180sx which is the same as a silvia under the hood(Silvias have a better look). 180sx has a 4 cyclinder and is way lighter a Silva or a 180sx is a way better car thre better on fuel as well. You can pick up a fully moded silvia for about $13000-$17000 with turbo, sound system, rims, body kit THE LOT.You Should go with the Silvia. here are some links for some silvias that are for sale: http://www.tradingpost.com.au/Automotive/Used-Cars/Sports-Performance-Cars/AdNumber=W1056250691103?BackToResult=true OR http://www.tradingpost.com.au/Automotive/Used-Cars/Sports-Performance-Cars/AdNumber=W1056250691103?BackToResult=true there you go send me an email on which one you decideMike)

  8. where can i go online to find a turbo&manifold for my Nissan Z24 2.4L Motor? 1984?

i am looking for a turbo kit, used will do.sorry mine has been bored 0.75 over high performance cam, bearings, oversize radiator w/electric fans, electric water pump.oil pump and pushes 120 with stock transmission configuration.. 220psi per cylinder. and putting out 160HP right now. has throttle body injection off Toyota, 2"straight pipe to 5" stacks. so i am now looking for a turbo. i have a friend who has one on his in a Suzuki samurai with the exact motor pushing close to 200HP!!!!

ANSWER: (No one developed a turbo kit for your little 100 horsepower carbureted engine, because it is not a good engine, and even if it was, nobody wanted to make their Nissan mini-pickups fast. If you want to increase power, get yourself an engine swap. You can fit a KA24E or a VG30E engine into your truck, but honestly it isn't worth the cost of the swap. Just get yourself a newer pickup that already had one of these engines as an option.)

  9. Nissan 350z APS Twin Turbo Kit Help?

Hey, I'm looking at the APS Twin Turbo Kit for a Nissan 350z and was wondering if you can still use aftermarket headers with it, or if there are any restrictions on what you can add to the car after installing the turbos? Thanks!

ANSWER: (you cant use headers because the turbo manifold is the headers basically. also youll need a turbo timer, and if u wanna have complete control a manual boost contoller, might i reccomend checking out STS turbos to. aps is known for heatsoak and alot of my gto forum guys who have them are breaking down alot. good luck with your decision, oh and one more thing, your drive train wont hold the power so your gunna need these, new trans, drive shaft, axles etc. it gets pricy.)

  10. i want to import a nissan skyline r32 from japan, but i don't know where to find aftermarket turbo kits. HELP?

i need help finding a turbo kit for it, because every where i look they don't have any.

ANSWER: (http://www.skylineowners.com/forum/ Jump on there, there are traders and other owners whom will send you to the safest and best places. Enjoy your R32 great cars.)

  11. does anybody know if Turbo Manifold kit is legal in California?

    i hav 90 240sx (ka24e)... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/89-90-Nissan-S13-240SX-KA24E-Turbo-Manifold-kit_W0QQitemZ190326308987QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item2c5055007b&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245

ANSWER: (Any kinda of modification to a car that doesnt pass CARB is illegal especially in cali there very strict on it... Basically if it voids factory warranty regardless what car you have or year it isnt CARB legal btw thats a really bad kit these ebay turbo kits die like in a few months the manfold itself is a piece of junk it cracks cuz it cant hold the pressure ive seen it many times ... you should go with a branded company or what forum users suggest)

  12. to get a INTERCOOLER KIT on my s13 nissan silvia will it need to be turbo?

thanks im restoring one roght now lol it relly fun its not turbo yet but i wanna do the outside frist ...but cant i put one in a non turbo

ANSWER: (You can put an intercooler in a non turbo... Completely useless. But you can do it. An intercooler is designed to cool the air going into an engine because when air is compressed in a turbocharger it becomes incredibly hot. Without the turbo, your not doing anything constructive for the car.)

  13. can you install a turbo kit from a 95 nissan sentra to a 95 nissan 200sx se?

i got a 95 nissan 200sx se, engine GA16DE. and i have been looking for a turbo kit for the 200sx, but had no luck. i have seen many turbo kits for the 95 sentra, its the same engine as the 200sx. since they are both the same engine, GA16de i was wondering if i could add a sentra turbo kit to a 200sx se. please let me know thanks

ANSWER: (the 200sx is the same thing as a sentra....the only difference is the look....)

  14. what i need on my 1993 nissan 240sx?

im going to put a turbo on my 1993 nissan 240 hatch. the engine itself only has 100k on it and runs perfect. i need to know what i need to know exactly what i need to make it run good. need to know every detail. i want to run it around 12 to 15 psi max. thanks for your input. also dont tell me what i need for a good turbo kit just what internals i need so i dont blow my engine.

ANSWER: (Rods, pistons, new head gaskets, maybe a new crank depending on what shape yours is in. You could always go extreme, and get the cylinders sleeved. But for your application, that's a bit of overkill. Problem is, no one can tell you exactly what you need, until the engine is taken apart. If the internals are solid...you might not need to change a thing. If they're run ragged (even if the engine runs perfect), you may need to rebuild the entire thing. Take it to a shop, have them rip it apart, and see what they tell you.)

  15. Should I get this Turbo for my Nissan 350z?

I want to turbo my 2004 Nissan 350z Touring Roadster. However, I don't know too much about cars. I saw this turbo kit in eBay and thought it was pretty cheap. I wondering if this would be a good idea to buy for my 350z. Also, about how much added HP do you think it would receive and would you suggest I get this kit?any problems I may face by going with the cheap option. Please help. Below is a link to the ebay auction. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Starter-Turbo-Kit-DATSUN-510-310-180SX-240SX-300ZX-350Z_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a16Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem260337195843QQitemZ260337195843QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

ANSWER: (No.. that kit does not include everything needed and it contains the cheapest parts that can be assembled. It will not function correctly and you are going to have to spend alot making it fit. For proven performance without the risk follow this link.http://www.stillen.com/product.asp?id=STISUPR01&c=PE&year=2004&make=NISSAN&model=350ZStillen is well known by nissan owners for their top of the line performance parts.)

  16. Can i install a turbo on a R33 2.5l GTS (non turbo) nissan Skyline?

Hi i'd like to know how to install a turbo on my skyline, my goal is to get about 400-500hp out of it. There's some things i need to know like: what kind of turbo should i use, and where on the net could i find it? what other parts should i change to keep the engine from breaking under the turbo's pressure? Does a turbo kit come with all there parts included? Thanks for the help, could anyone give me an estimate on how much this could cost. Ow yeah, and please dont tell me to sell this one and buy a turbo version

ANSWER: (Yes it can be done i have seen a few na skyline conversions to turbo's.I believe you will not see silly power figures as it will be a smaller turbo that will be added, but still some good figures, others go for the engine conversion route.Best advice for this conversion is to join the forums and ask on there to see what other people have done. Basic run down on parts is the turbo, recirculate valve, turbo manifold and ecu. http://www.skylineowners.com/forum/index.php http://www.skylinesdownunder.com/forums/index.php http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/forums.html http://www.hkskylineclub.com/index1.htm)

  17. Are those cheap $500-$800 turbo kits on E-bay, junk?

I want to turbo my 93 nissan 240sx, nothing hardcore. I know what I need to make the setup work but I'm wondering if the cheap kit will screw me. I know my other option is to save for a long time and by a brand name expensive kit, $1900-$2800.

ANSWER: (Most of the time those turbo kits on ebay really only come with a random assortment of bent tubing, a knock-off turbo, and some silicone couplers. They are missing A LOT of parts. One thing to keep in mind is to never try skimp on the turbo itself, because that is the heart of the whole operation. If you have some decent fabrication skills, and you know what parts are missing. you could probably make it work. Instead of turbocharging your current motor, have you considered swapping in an engine that is already turbocharged? The sr20det is a turbocharged engine that was offered in Japan in the 240sx, and is a relatively easy swap to perform, although it might end up costing more that an expensive turbo kit for your current engine, which I'm assuming is a ka24de. Just remember that if you cheap out on a turbo kit now, it will end up costing you more down the road, so your best bet is to either save up for a legitimate turbo kit, or save up for a faster car.)

  18. Do you have to upgrade stock tranny?

I want to get a turbo kit for my 02 nissan spec v. I'm also thinking of getting forged internals so i can make some monster horsepower. If i were to make about 500 horses, would i have to upgrade the tranny or would it be able to handle it? What about upgrading other parts of the powertrain?

ANSWER: (Your transmission will hold, but that much power, update your trans where possible. "BRILLIANT"!!!!)

  19. How old do you need to be to drive a nissan skyline?

I can't find any details anywhere, I also needed to search high and low for the age for a kit car,it is either 19 or 21!. I have been offered a great deal on a NISSAN SKYLINE R33 2 LITRE NON TURBO. I am in the UK!

ANSWER: (As long as you are over 17 and have a full Licence you can drive a skyline, the only trouble you will have is the insurance side which is not that hard to find now days, when i wanted to get insured on a skyline many many years ago i stood no chance but times have changed and money talks.http://www.skylineowners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=97904&highlight=insurance+payingthread may help get on the free forum anyway and ask more on there. The car itself has a great following so remember to do tasteful mods if you get the car as you need to keep in with the true skyline enthusiast. The non turbo R33 is a great car and powerful for a first car the 2.5l will offer you more power but for a first car the 2.0l will def do both are rwd so again adds to the excitement and power, modding is easy to the RB engines, and overall there great cars with plenty of tuning and styling parts out there. When looking for insurance ring the people up and don't rely on the net as on the phone you can barter and don't forget you want non turbo insurance and make sure there not wanting to charge you turbo insurance as do to the car being an import info is limited on these cars,my first skyline i had to send internet links to prove there was more than GTR models in the World.)

  20. I am looking for a turbo kit for a nissan NE6T part number 1421-99388?

Any one know of a supplier in USA or any other country ???

    ANSWER: (Try Ebay)

  21. 1995 Nissan 240sx Turbo info?

I have a stock 1995 Nissan 240sx. I want to turbo it but I can't afford the turbo kit that is available for it now. I wanted to know if I could just buy a turbo manifold and turbocharger and some other small things. Would that work. Thanks Thanks, but what components? Thanks, sorry I didn't check earlier.

ANSWER: (***EDIT for chriss useless post - Please visit www.ka-t.org They can show you what you need to do to turbo your car. There are 100's of guys running completly stock engines up to 400hp. "Componets" I also have no idea what this guy is talking about. I have a 97 240sx at 300hp right now for 4 years. I beat on it every day and I can't get it to blow up. ***** You don't have to buy a kit. If you know what makes up a turbo car then just piece the parts together. It will be cheaper then buying a kit but you need the knowledge of what parts work with what parts. There are guys running 250hp turbo set ups on KAs for $750 total. There is only one website you need... www.ka-t.org)

  22. Nissan Skyline R34 Non-Turbo Air Intake?

Hey Skyline freinds :) hope your reading this also Tricky!! i have a suspicion there is a restrictor in my Nissan skyline's R34 GT 1998 Non-turbo Air intake, can anyone elaberate on this or confirm it or tell me not to be silly? and if not, would it make much diffrence if i where to install a cold intake pipe form the carby to the far left vent inlet on my front body kit?thanx!

ANSWER: (I haven't know of a restrictor in the AFM although it is restricted to the amount of air it can measure, often when modding a car an upgraded afm is needed either work on the stock one or upgrading to a bigger version from another car.But the AFM on your car i am guessing will be like the R33 version which can take around 330bhp before any mods need doing to it and this is usually done with an injector upgrade.http://cgi.ebay.com/NISSAN-AFM-300ZX-Z32-SKYLINE-R34-R33-R32-200sx-S13-S14_W0QQitemZ250290889992QQihZ015QQcategoryZ32624QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItema common upgrade to skyline engines. Adding more air will give more bhp to your car not a major gain but a simple mod to free up some power.Which way to go with this is upto you and you will get different answers.Ways to go are adding an air filter and removing your stock box, adding a performance panel filter .http://www.nengun.com/apexi/power-intake-panel-filterThis keeps the stockbox upgrades if wanted would be a bonnet vent straight into the airbox,a 3 " hole drilled in the stock air box with a 3" pipe to the front bumper or a hole down through the wheel arch.http://www.eastern-autos.com/shop/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=396most used skyline filter.although will work better with a heat shield. Air filter comparrisons.http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/filters_test/2/)

  23. Where can I find a turbo manifold for my Nissan?

I'm looking for a turbo manifold for my 2005 Nissan Altima 3.5 VQ35DE engine but, can't seem to find one individually for my T/3 T/4 turbo. The complete kits cost as much as $5,000.00 +.

ANSWER: (Your best bet at the moment is going to be to search Ebay or other online auction/classified listings. Since the Altima never came with a factory turbo option, you will have a hard time finding just an exhaust manifold for it. You could also have one custom made for your car by a reputable shop that knows what they are doing. Drop by www.nicoclub.com and check out the Altima forums. There is one member who has a turbo Altima coupe and in his write up he details what he did with his car. Might give you some insight as to what needs to be done.)

  24. nissan 300zx twin turbo?

Ok, I have become obsessed with the nissan 300zx twin turbo. I have gone to z1 and ultimatez just to see what i would do with the car. I have checked ebay, craiggslist, and cars.com everyday that's how obsessed i have become. I plan to put on an exhaust z1 chip air intake bov with hard pipes and fuel injector kit. I pretty much know everything about the car except this. How is the reliability? I dont want to spend 2,500 in a car thats 13-18 years old then the engine goes up? If you owned one or have one just give me some tips please. Those arent the only things i plan to do thats just for 6 months after i own i dont know what i want to do after that. Its probably gonna have anywhere from 90 - 130,000 miles on it. Some of the ones that i see have had a eng. I am gonna try n get one with little to no mods. Ny help would be great. thanx

ANSWER: (They are very reliable, however general maintance is expensive. The parts aren't cheap either. Since your "Obsessed" make sure you learn the in/out of the car. Lean to do most of the repair work yourself, it will save you tons of money in the long run. If you get one get atleast a 91. The 90 had some casting issues with the heads causing the Crank angle sensor to fail. Another well know problem for the Z's are the high pressure power steering hose. They leak and if not taken care of immediately it will cause the alternator the fail. So far they seem unreliable, but that's not the case. These is just common issues. Another thing is cam seals leaking oil. This is also very common, but it you follow the proper maint sched you should be ok. I have a 93 that I bought in 2000. I haven't have any problems that won't do to normal wear and tear. To get a lot of maint tips, go to http://www.twinturbo.net/nissan/300zx/tech/tech.aspxhere is a list of step by step maint tips with pics and if you look around there are tons of post and ppl willing to help. I also have to tell the Z1 rocks, but they are a little on the expensive side. Any way good luck and welcome the The Z World.)

  25. i have a 86 nissan 300 z its not a turbo, v6, where do i find a turbo kit without hurting my engine?

i want a turbo without having to change everything on the engine block

ANSWER: (I agree with John Paul. For it to ge cost effective, your best option will be to do a turbo swap. Engine will be ready to go (plug and play).)

  26. is there a body kit and turbo charger for 1991 nissan stanza?

i am looking for a body kit and turbo for 1991 nissan stanza...its a 4cyl...if u have links i would appreciate them

ANSWER: (The body kit and new paint alone would cost more than the car!)

  27. Does turbo kits work on automatic transmission cars for example a 2005 nissan altima??

ANSWER: (As long as the extra power from the turbo does not put too much torque through it, it should be fine. Limit boost to a sensible level and the trans should be okay. You may want to change converters to a high stall type for increased performance and add a cooler to help it last.)

  28. where can i find a turbo kit for a 1991 nissan 240SX?

ANSWER: (im doing that to my 240sx...but im piecing all my stuff out. The sr20det is an easy and relatively cheap project, but a turbo charged ka24de will smoke an sr20det 240sx.)

  29. Nissan 350z turbo?

I want a turbo kit for my nismo 35z but i dont know what brand i should go with....or where to order from. help plz.

ANSWER: (Keep in mind that more than 7 psi boost your going to have to lower your compression that means motor rebuild. Most single turbo systems can use the stock compression. Adding boost opens another can of worms more fuel larger injectors intercoolers and oil coolers and electronic boost controllers. Nismo Z was rare enough to become a classic if you can keep the front and rear bumpercovers and spoilers from being curb dammaged.)

  30. is there a turbo kit for my 1990 nissan maxima?

ANSWER: (If there is it'd probably cost more than the car is worth.)
