Starting this summer, British car enthusiasts will have the chance to ride new vehicles from DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group division. Straight from the company's headquarters in Michigan, Chrysler Group will bring the new Dodge Nitro SUV and Dodge Avenger sedan to roll out in dealer showrooms all over the United Kingdom. Chrysler Group also released the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) for the two vehicles.

According to Peter Lambert, Managing Director of Chrysler Group UK:

“People want to drive a car that helps them to stand out from the crowd and still manages to offer great value for money. Our new Dodge vehicles deliver bold and aggressive styling together with masses of standard kit that make them both incredibly good value.”

First off is the all-new 4-door Dodge Nitro sport utility vehicle (SUV). The vehicle retains its boxy and aggressive body styling with 20-inch and chrome-clad aluminum wheels and performance tires. Compared to the VW Touareg mid size SUV with trapezoidal VW grille, the new Nitro features Dodge's signature crosshair grille on its front fascia that marks its identity.

“In a world of mostly bland competitors, the Dodge Nitro has the design, engineering and performance to inspire drivers and shake up the mid-size SUV market", says Peter Lambert. “The Nitro boasts excellent overall performance and competitive fuel economy, as well as a comprehensive range of safety, security and convenience features including the new ‘Load ‘N Go’ rear floor cargo system.” he added

Available in three model trims, UK customers will have a choice of two power plants for the new Dodge Nitro: an all-new 2.8-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine and a 3.7-litre petrol engine.

The all-new 2.8-litre common-rail turbo diesel engine delivers 174 hp and produces 339 lb.-ft or peak torque, mated to either a six-speed manual transmission or a five-speed automatic gearbox. Meanwhile, the more powerful 3.7-litre SOHC V6 petrol engine pumps out 203 hp and produces 232 lb.-ft. amount of pulling force torque output. The engine is combined with a standard automatic transmission powering the vehicle's 4x4 drivetrain configuration.

The new Dodge Nitro will roll out in the UK market with the following MSRP: 2.8 CRD SE (MT) - £18,990 ($37,368 USD); 2.8 CRD SXT (MT) - £22,490 ($44,255 USD); 2.8 CRD SXT (AT) £23,490 ($46,223 USD); 3.7 SXT (AT) - £23,490 ($46,223 USD).

Meanwhile, the Dodge Avenger sedan comes in two model trim levels – Avenger SE and Avenger SXT. Both models are available with either a petrol or a turbo diesel engine with 2.0 liter of displacement. The 2.0-liter petrol engine is capable of delivering 154 hp and produces 140 lb.-ft. amount of torque, coupled with a 5-speed automatic gearbox. Base MSRP for Dodge Avenger SE with 2.0-liter petrol engine is at 14,995 British pounds ($29,500 USD).

For fuel efficient customers, the 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine is available with power output of 38 hp and 229 lb.-ft. amount of torque, mated to a six-speed manual transmission. MSRP for the Dodge Avenger SE with this type of engine starts at 15,995 ($31,475).

At the 77th Geneva International Motor Show Chrysler Group's Jeep division has showcased seven new all-new models expanding the company’s product range of on- and off-road sport utility vehicles (SUV).

According to Thomas Hausch, Executive Director – International Sales and Marketing, Chrysler Group: “The Jeep brand is on a product offensive and will continue to grow with new offerings that leverage Jeep’s legendary 4x4 leadership. We have solidified the Jeep brand’s foundation with the all-new Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited, while also stretching the brand to reach new customers in the growing compact SUV segment with Jeep Compass, the segment’s most fuel-efficient vehicle, and Jeep Patriot.”

One of these new SUV models presented at Geneva is the top of the range Jeep Commander Overland, which offers more features and refinement inside and out for the 2007 model year.

During its launch at the Geneva Motor Show, Thomas Hausch said: “Jeep Commander is the first seven-passenger 4x4 that is as capable as it is distinctive. It is also the only SUV in its class to offer two V-8 petrol engines, as well as a class-leading diesel V-6. Now with the understated luxury of the new range-topping Overland model, Jeep Commander becomes the ultimate expression of Jeep ‘Classic’ design and an even more compelling package for customers in Europe and other international markets.”

Jeep Commander Overland offers an enhanced interior with new high-quality materials and accents providing a comfortable ambience for the occupants. Interior highlights include leather-wrapped steering wheel with Vavona Burl wood rim insert, leather trimmed centre armrest, leather trimmed door grab, leather trimmed handles, leather trimmed gear shifter, Vavona Burl wood trim on upper instrument panel, centre floor console bezel, and front door switch bezels. In addition, the two-tone seats come with Suede Microfiber and leather trim, with an Overland logo embroidered on the front seatbacks. A bunch of interior color combinations is also available. Comfort and practicality is an important factor for the Commander Overland. The seating capacity is two in front, three in the middle, and two at the rear. Cargo compartment volume is at 212 litres (7.5 cu. ft.) with third row seats upright, and 1028 litres (36.3 cu. ft.) with third row folded.

Outside, the Jeep Commander Overland embodies the traditional Jeep styling, marked by the vehicle's bold and aggressive body highlighted by the honeycomb mesh 7-slot front grille, lower front fascia, bodyside mouldings, roof rack side rails, and the rear tailgate badge. An 18-inch 7-spoke machine faced aluminum wheels with all-season performance tires completes the overall appearance of the Jeep Commander Overland.

Moving on the technical side, the Jeep Commander Overland comes with two power plants for the customers to choose from: the 5.7-litre HEMI V8 and the 3.0-litre V-6 turbo diesel engine.

The 5.7-litre HEMI V8 petrol engine is standard for all Commander Overland models. It is rated to deliver 326 hp (240 kW) at 5,000 rpm and produces 369 lb.-ft. (500 Nm) amount of maximum torque rotating at 4,000 rpm. For fuel efficient customers, the 3.0-litre V-6 turbo diesel is available, capable of producing 218 hp (160 kW) at 4,000 rpm and 376 lb.-ft. (510 Nm) of peak torque at 1,600-2,400 rpm. The engine has 6 cylinders and features common-rail high-pressure direct injection to provide improved fuel efficiency and cleaner exhaust emissions. Both engines are combined with a standard 5-speed automatic gearbox.

To enhance the vehicle handling and steering, Jeep has equipped the Commander Overland with high-quality suspension and chassis parts including live solid axle and five-link suspension, twin monotube shock absorbers, rack-and-pinion with hydraulic power assist, and Jeep Lift kits.

Vw Performance Parts – Engine Upgrades

Posted On June 27th 2009 By TeRBo. Under Turbo Articles  Tags: Auto Parts, Engine Upgrades, performance, Volkswagen, Vw Parts  .

If you're like me you want your car to go faster. There are a few easy ways to get more "fast" out of your volkswagen. Depending on what type of VW you have the selection of parts available to you will vary wildly. There are a lot of people out there tuning their Golf/GTI but obviously there are a lot fewer Toureg parts out there. There is a large community of VW tuners out there and visiting the forums where these people hang out is a very good idea. They can give you an idea of what to expect out of various aftermarket parts. If the part exists the chances are good that someone on these forums has tried it out and written about it. This may sound silly but a couple of the best things you can do to make sure your car is running its best is to get your car a tune up and an oil change. Adding performance parts to a car that isn't already running its best isn't going to be nearly as effective. Another important but overlooked thing is making sure your tires are properly inflated. This can improve the handling of your VW as well as ensure you're getting optimum gas mileage. Once these basic steps have been completed there's a few other things you can do to upgrade your ride.Engine / Power Upgrades1) Upgrade your intake. This can be as simple as making sure your current air filter is clean. The more air your engne can get the better it will run. The next easiest option is to install a high performance air filter that replaces the stock one. These provide better air flow which should increase engine power slightly. The next step after that would be to install a complete aftermarket intake system. Cold Air Intakes draw cool air from outside the engine compartment rather than regular systems which suck in hot air from around your engine. Most of these systems are fairly easy to install and can be done yourself in a few hours or less. An aftermarket intake can cost anywhere from $50 all the way up to $300.2) Upgrade your headers: The headers and downpipe is where the exhaust first leaves your engine on its way toward the atmosphere. Higher performance headers allow more exhaust fumes to escape, which can give a dramatic increase to horsepower. Aftermarket header prices can range from a couple hundred dollars to well over $1000 depending on what type of vehicle you have and what brand you choose. One thing to look out for is that cheaper headers tend to have fitment issues (you can't get them to line up correctly for a simple bolt-on installation), and they may have resonance issues. Resonance is caused by the exhaust vibrating the metal and will create a noise that bothers most people. Headers can be installed yourself if you're experienced enough.3) Catback exhaust: These exhaust systems start where the headers end. They connect to the Catalytic converter and replace the entire exhaust system to the back of the car. Depending on how free flowing the stock exhaust is on your car this may be one of the last upgrades you choose to do. These exhaust systems aren't cheap and may require welding and/or professional installation. They usually give your car a higher performance sound over the stock setup. It is also possible to just replace the mufflers if all you care about is the sound.4) Tires. Probably the most overlooked performance enhancement you can do for your car is to replace the tires. Adding lots of engine power won't do you any good if you can't get that power to the pavement. Replacing your tires with a wider tire or tires with a stickier compound will help you get more traction. Choosing tires is usually a compromise between Performance, Ride Comfort, and Tread Life. High performance tires don't last as long as regular ones. High performance tires can cost quite a bit of money too.5) Underdrive Pulleys. You can reclaim some lost power from your engine by installing a lightweight crank pulley. These are made of aluminum and tend to weigh several times less than the stock ones they replace. Underdrive pulleys are slightly smaller than the stock ones, which means they turn the accessories they operate at a slightly lower speed. This isn't a problem for most people unless they have a huge stereo system. These pulleys are usually less than a couple hundred dollars, and can be installed yourself. You will need a breaker bar to get the old one off, and a serious torque wrench to attach the new one. The last thing you want is the pulley coming off while you're driving down the freeway!6) Turbochargers. If you have lots of money and are serious about upgrading your car a turbo kit might be what you need. Turbos use the exhaust from your engine to spin a turbine, which forces air into your engine. This pressurizes the air and improves horsepower dramatically. These are not very likely to be something you would install yourself. They also may require other modifications to your car, so the cost is out of reach for most people.I hope you've learned some of the basics of how you can upgrade your VW to get better performance out of it. Just remember to do your research before making a purchase, as there are a lot of products out there attempting to scam people like us.

Porsche 911′s Turbo Upgraded By Techart

Posted On June 20th 2009 By TeRBo. Under Turbo Articles  Tags: Auto Parts, Porsche 911 Accessories, Porsche Accessories, Porsche Auto Accessories, Porsche Car Parts, Porsche Parts Accessories  .

TechArt, a recognized German vehicle manufacturer and tuner, created a new kit for the Porsche 911 Turbo. The upgraded Turbo engine is capable of producing 580 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 700 Nm at 4,850 rpm. Power generated is transmitted to all four wheels through a modified 6-speed manual gearbox that comes with TechArt gearshift travel shortage and extra gear-box-oil cooling.
There were no modifications made to Porsche 911 accessories nonetheless; the 3.6 liter boxer engine was modified with 2 larger turbochargers, a sports air filter, integrated high performance catalysts, and the stainless steel exhaust system with special manifolds. The car can now hit 62 mph in 3.46 seconds and a top speed of 210 mph.
Other Porsche car parts were also customized. TechArt Formula is used to customize the exterior of the car. Additionally, the 5-spoke wheels and an aerodynamics kit use said formula to boost the car performance. The front spoiler created by TechArt lessens aerodynamic lift by 15 percent. Also, the new rear wing in conjunction with TechArt rear diffuser can generate 20 percent extra down force.
Porsche 911, a valuable sports car from Porsche AG of Stuttgart, Germany, is proven to be durable, distinctive, and famous. Since its inception in the auto industry, the same has been subjected to several modifications. As a fact, Porsche 911 has undergone constant development since 1964. The most notable mechanical modification is the introduction of air-cooled Type 996.
Porsche 911 has been upgraded and modified by both the private teams and the automaker. These modifications are specially made for Porsche to do better in rallying, racing, and other auto competition. Actually, Porsche 911 has been cited as the most successful competition car ever produced. Moreover, the most powerful is the Type 935. In an international poll, Porsche 911 landed on the 5th place for the world's most influential car of the twentieth century. The top 4 cars were Ford Model T, the Mini, the Citroën DS and the Volkswagen Beetle.
TechArt, on the other hand, is a famed vehicle manufacturer. Nowadays, said company is setting a pattern in individualizing Porsche cars. Its workmanship and sense of design pave way for finest cars in the industry including Porsche 911.

Car Body Kits, Euro Tail Lights, And Projector Headlights – Three Elements of a Custom Ride

Posted On June 19th 2009 By TeRBo. Under Turbo Articles  Tags: Auto Body Kits, Auto Parts, Body Kits  .

After months of looking for exactly the right car, the time has come. You've forked out the money you needed to buy your perfect ride, and there it is sitting in your driveway.
As you spent your time looking for the perfect car it's very likely that you also took some time to look up parts that would give your car that extra boost. Turbos, superchargers, custom flywheels, and other parts may have made your to-get list.
Now as you stand their looking at the car it's quite apparent. If you're going to put all that money under the hood, you're going to want it to look good to. Luckily customizing the look of your car isn't difficult, and with three simple elements you can give your car a completely different look.Customize your Car's Look in Three Steps
To give your ride a whole new look simply adding a few aftermarket elements to the car is a good start. Of course, you'll likely want to follow it up with custom paint and that ultra-cool decal set, but that's a topic for another article.Element #1: Car Body Kits
The first step in giving your car a new look is to order a car body kit. There are kits to fit most makes and models of cars, and ordering a premade kit means all you have to do is install it to get a whole new look.
Most body kits include a new front bumper, a new rear bumper, and side skirts for your car. Some enthusiasts also like to add a custom hood, and a spoiler along with their kit. The easiest way to find the right kit for your car is to simply browse available car body kits, on sites like our own, and on the manufacturers' websites.
A body kit alone is a great start, but to really get that this-car-will-blow-you-away look, you should also consider changing your lights (Element 2 and 3).Element #2: Euro Tail Lights
The next step in customizing your ride is to choose some euro-style tail lights. These simple replacement lights give your car some added flare, and at the same time get rid of the drab stock lighting.
In this case you want to choose a kit that fits your car, and also ensure that it fits with the body kit you chose. Another element to consider when choosing your lights is what color your car will be when you're finished. Euro tail lights are available with reflective backgrounds, or with darker backgrounds. The color of your car should be factored in to choose the right ones for you.Element #3: Projector Headlights
Finally, to finish your new look, you should get yourself a pair of projector headlights. Not only will this completely change the look of the front of your car, but it will make your car safer at the same time.
Again you want to consider the car, the body kit you chose, and the color of your car. It should also be noted, that cheaper definitely isn't better in this case. The more expensive headlights tend to have better halogen bulbs which will be brighter for night driving.
You got your car, you know how you're going to customize the power train, and you now have an easy way to give your car a new look. All that's left is to grab your wrenches and get to work!
